Mama bear kills and throws tourist who took a selfie off a cliff: "How beautiful, she's coming toward me."

Omar Farang Zin, a 49-year-old man, was famous for posting his travels around the world on social media. On his most recent trip, he was in the Romanian Carpathians, where he met a fatal outcome while trying to take a selfie with a brown bear crossing the road with her cubs.

The incident took place on the famous Transfăgărășan Highway, known as one of the most beautiful routes in the world. Farang was traveling on his motorcycle when he stopped upon spotting the bear. Instead of keeping his distance, as safety precautions suggest, he chose to approach and take pictures. On his Facebook page, he shared a photo of himself smiling and a video in which he said, “Oh, how beautiful it is. It’s coming toward me.”

What happened?

According to witnesses, the visitor approached the animal's cubs dangerously, provoking an aggressive response. The bear charged at the individual and dragged him toward a 40-meter cliff, where rescue teams found his lifeless body.

A team of 40 firefighters and armed park rangers arrived at the scene after receiving warnings from other drivers. The operation was difficult, as the bear remained close to the body and attacked the rescuers multiple times. In the end, it was necessary to shoot it in order to recover the body.

The tragedy has raised concerns about tourism in natural areas. Romania is home to between 6,000 and 7,000 brown bears, the largest concentration in Europe. Authorities reiterate that, despite their seemingly harmless appearance, these animals are wild and extremely territorial, especially when they are with their cubs.

On social media platforms, both friends and followers of Omar Farang have shared their condolences, recalling his adventurous nature. Just before his unfortunate end, the Italian had posted the words: "Today the brown bears were the protagonists, but the landscapes were fabulous."
